“Chaosmos” features three disparate films cohering around vision of a universe defined by irrationality. These highly political films challenge the dominant accounts of normativity, where, we’re told, rational structure grounds society. Instead, these films revel in the chaos and destruction that shapes existence. Somewhere between sincere and ironic, these films are scathing critiques of the contexts in which they were produced, exaggerated caricatures of how the universe really hangs together, not the fairy-tale party-line.
