Trans-Mediterranean Archive Dialogue
An open conversation between Tamer El Said (Cimatheque – Alternative Film Center, Cairo) Ayman Nahle (UMAM Documentation & Research, Beirut), and Jacob Moe (Archipelago Network, Syros) tackles ethical questions that arise from the preservation and re-use of audiovisual archival materials, and collaboratively investigates the social, political, and legal considerations of open access.

Jacob Moe is a documentarian, archivist and literary translator. He is co-founder of the Syros International Film Festival and has produced various community-based film and radio documentary projects in the USA, Brazil and Greece. He is founder and principal investigator of the Archipelago Network, an initiative for the documentation of audiovisual heritage, culture, and material knowledge on the Cyclades islands.
Ayman Nahle is a visual artist, filmmaker, cinematographer, film editor and film archivist. By synergizing his filmmaking with a passion for archiving, he delves into the realm of liminal space, bridging the gap between past memories and cultural and political interventions. His work is being showcased in cinemas, film festivals, galleries, and museums worldwide. Since 2020, he has been actively involved in archival practices, contributing to various workshops and research projects as an audio-visual archivist for Umam Documentation & Research (UMAM D&R) collections. His dedication to preserving and documenting audio-visual materials has been instrumental in enriching the historical and cultural heritage of these collections.
