LANDMARKS workshop 2018

LANDMARKS workshop

The LANDMARKS workshop is a meeting of two islands, Tinos and Syros, in the context of SIFF. It seeks to create a new artistic connection between the two, revisiting fragments of each islands’ histories, their connections with the past, the transport of materials – specifically marble – and the movements of notable marble sculptors between the two. Over the course of a seven-day workshop, students from the Preparatory and Professional School of Fine Arts in Pirgos, Tinos (a school which continues the unique tradition of Tinos marble-sculpting recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO) and students from the department of Industrial Design at the University of the Aegean in Syros encounter one another to create site-specific works (landmarkslinked with the Festival’s screening sites, its overarching programming theme, and specific films. The workshop is led by Sofia Dona and Dimitris Theodoropoulos.

Sofia Dona is an architect and visual artist who realizes work in the space between architecture and art. She was recently awarded the architectural prize of the city of Munich (Förderpreis der Landeshauptstadt Cheney). For the last two years, she has been teaching at the Technical University of Munich.

Dimitris Theodoropoulos is an architect and a member of the hiboux architecture team. He teaches a design studio at the architectural department of the Patras University and architectural drawing at the Preparatory and Professional School of Fine Arts in Pirgos, Tinos.
