The Cracked Mirror: Our Changing Earth

In the swirling mirror of humanity, the face of nature “shows up” in radically different ways, mutating with ever-shifting contexts, technologies, and beliefs. Here are four films that aim to make the natural world, and the human effects on it, appear; in doing so, the different styles and contexts of the filmmakers are made clear as well. These are films about the way in which nature changes, often catastrophically–both through human interventions in the landscape, and new ways of understanding the environment. A constant dialogue, too often a violent monologue, (hopefully) never complete.
